The Left likes to eat its own. Thus, at any given time, the world is full of lost souls, who, having escaped the cannibals' pot, are looking for a new political home. A few of these will begin a long journey that will, in the fullness of time, lead to an embrace of our way of looking at things. Some, like George Orwell, while failing to make a full metamorphosis, will do good work. Many, if not most, of the victims of Leftist autophagy, however, will attempt to recreate the intellectual environments of the moment before their departure. Thus, they will retain the vast majority of the assumptions and attitudes, biases and beliefs that have characterized the Left since the days of Rousseau and Robespierre.
