I think you make some really great points here, but I also think you're letting the board off too easy. It's the board chair's job to run a great meeting, and if the meeting sucks and the board is inactive and lethargic, some of the responsibility falls to the board chair. I've heard so many stories of boards being disrespectful of their staff and dismissive of their input that it makes my head spin. I'd love to see an article similar to this, covering the exact same scenario only sketching out what the board chair's role should be in this situation.
