When in doubt, don't do an April Fool's joke. There is too much pressure and expectation, which leads to these attempts at humor that don't work as intended. It also helps if the joke is clear. Doing that kind of silly thing is okay(depending on the joke) on websites since all you do is click a link. But it's a bad fit for a build of an OS that you have to flash to a device. Also, it's not unreasonable to think the OS has been compromised. I believe that happened to Linux Mint once.
