A number of years ago I subscribed to a news letter on a financial markets news website ( it did not use Disqus ). I received not just the news letter which turned out to be less about financial markets news but about offers for mutual funds, insurance plans, brokers , credit cards etc, but I received mountains of unsolicited spam offers daily to my mail box as the website apparently resold my email address . Despite eventually managing to cancel the news letter subscription ( there was no cancel / opt out clause ) the spam mail continued unabated leaving me no option other than to abandon the email box & open another email account.
To sum up, experience has taught me never to sign up for newsletters even from bona fide websites - so Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware - even when or maybe especially when its a 'free offer' because as we all know there are no free lunches !
