I did an extensive report on workplace violence for night school years ago. These are the two facts I remember. 1.) The highest propensity for violence by far came from those employees who were initially terminated, but then given a second chance. When the boss wised up and the second and final termination came hours, days or weeks later, the aggrieved employee viewed this as a disavowal of his original second chance agreement with management and acted out accordingly... 2.) Exhaustive studies have shown that an ex employee bent on workplace revenge will return to the actual spot of his humiliation in an almost instinctual manner. Managers are now advised to terminate employees in an isolated or common area rather than their own office. This also keeps disgruntled employees from holding their supervisors "hostage" by refusing to accept the termination and leave the office...
