The inception of the internet guaranteed that polarization was going to occur. Major changes in modes of communication always lead to major political, social and economic realignments, as old alliances and bonds dissolve and new ones are formed.

The effects the www has had on society are at least as great as those caused by the inception of The Guttenberg Press, without which Martin Luther and the Reformation would have been but short chapters in books of European History.

That said, things are not going to get better. Bet on it.
